CECOL NEWSPAPER

The Centro Educativo Colombo Latino has presented many enriching activities throughout this year under the theme “Guardians of Creation: The Human Essence and Its Connection with the Four Elements, in Harmony with Nature.” Each event has aimed to inspire students and the community to reflect on the deep relationship between humanity and the natural world. Through artistic performances, environmental projects, academic exhibitions, and cultural celebrations, the institution has emphasized the importance of caring for the planet and recognizing the vital role of earth, water, air, and fire in sustaining life. These experiences have not only fostered creativity and teamwork but also encouraged a sense of responsibility toward ecological balance and personal growth. Below is a newspaper article that describes each of these activities:

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ELECTIONS AND POSITIONING:

The first step in the process is to hold the student representative elections, an activity where the students vote for the candidates based on their ideals and proposals to carry out during the year. This democratic exercise allows students to engage actively by choosing the individual who they believe will best represent their interests and work towards improving the school community. In this election, the candidates were the students Juan David Calero and Nicoll Daniela Perez, both presenting their visions and commitments to their peers.

Following the election, the next important moment was the positioning ceremony, where the elected student representative, Juan David Calero, officially assumed his position as the head of the students. This ceremony marked the beginning of his responsibilities, where he pledged to serve as the voice and advocate for the student body, to promote a positive school environment, and to lead initiatives aligned with his campaign promises. The positioning also symbolized the formal transfer of student leadership and the strengthening of democratic values within the school community.

THE GAMES:

One of the most eagerly awaited events of the school year was The Games, brought together students, parents, and teachers in a day full of energy, teamwork, and healthy competition. Organized by the Physical Education Department, this celebration aimed to promote sportsmanship, discipline, and camaraderie among all members of the CECOL community.

Throughout the day, various sports activities took place, filling the institution with enthusiasm and color. The event began with a lively march led by the school band, creating a cheerful and motivating atmosphere. Each classroom proudly represented a different sport and a mascot that symbolized their assigned element from the year’s general theme—water, fire, earth, or air. This creative touch allowed students to express their school spirit while connecting physical education with environmental and cultural values.

Students participated in exciting matches of soccer, micro-football, and other games that tested their agility, strength, and coordination. Parents also joined the celebration, taking part in fun competitions that strengthened the bond between families and the school. Teachers were not left out, showing their sportsmanship and enthusiasm in friendly matches that entertained everyone.

To recognize dedication and effort, the institution honored the most outstanding athletes for their performance and sports discipline. These recognitions not only celebrated physical ability but also highlighted values such as perseverance, teamwork, and respect—core principles in both sports and life.

The Games concluded with an atmosphere of joy, laughter, and unity, reminding everyone that sports are more than just physical activity—they are a way to connect, celebrate diversity, and promote a

healthy lifestyle within the school community.

LANGUAGE DAY:

Language Day has become a special moment for the entire school community when students, teachers, and staff come together to share their unique knowledge, talents, and cultural backgrounds. This annual event is a celebration of the diversity and richness that languages and cultures bring to our lives.

This year’s celebration took on a transformative theme: the Four Elements—water, fire, earth, and air. Each element represented both a natural force and a central focus for learning. The school was divided into four areas, with each group delving into the meaning and importance of their assigned element.

These activities were not only academic exercises, but also moments to appreciate how elements sustain our communities and influence the way we communicate and live. Discussions, creative presentations, and interactive workshops allowed everyone to learn more about the gifts each element brings us and how deeply we depend on them in every aspect of our lives.

By focusing on the elements, Language Day fostered a greater understanding of our connection to the world and to each other. It reinforced the idea that knowledge is something to be shared, celebrated, and expanded together, just as the elements themselves are shared among all people on earth. The day inspired gratitude for both our linguistic heritage and for the natural world that sustains us—reminding everyone that language, like the elements, is essential for building bridges, nurturing growth, and sustaining life.

THE FORUM:

The Forum was an institutional activity that brought together knowledge, culture, and collaboration. Organized by the Humanities Department, this event aimed to promote cultural awareness and historical understanding through the exploration of Colombia’s indigenous heritage. The school proudly hosted three neighboring institutions, whose students joined in sharing ideas and learning through academic discussions focused on indigenous communities that once inhabited—or continue to inhabit—our national territory.

Throughout the day, several engaging presentations took place, each led by students who represented different indigenous groups assigned to their classes. Through visual materials, traditional attire, and creative displays, participants illustrated the deep cultural richness that these communities contribute to Colombian identity.

At the end of each presentation, students were invited to ask questions, exchange ideas, and expand their understanding of the indigenous peoples. This interactive element created a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment, where curiosity and respect for cultural diversity were the focus.

The forum served not only as an academic exercise but also as a bridge of dialogue and mutual appreciation between schools. It inspired reflection on the importance of recognizing and preserving indigenous cultures, reminding everyone that these ancient civilizations continue to shape our values, beliefs, and ways of life. By the end of the day, students had not only learned about history but also experienced the living presence of Colombia’s cultural diversity.

SCIENCE DAY:

Science Day was a dynamic and interactive event designed to spark curiosity and promote learning through hands-on activities and creative exploration. Organized around carefully planned rotations, students and their parents moved from one station to another, guided by the sound of the bell, ensuring that each group had the opportunity to participate in every activity throughout the day. This methodical organization allowed for a smooth flow and full engagement, so no detail or presentation was missed.

A major highlight was the business fair held in the school courtyard, led by the eleventh-grade students. Working in teams, they developed and offered a variety of innovative products, aiming to delight visitors and recover their investments. This entrepreneurial initiative not only showcased students' creativity and teamwork but also provided a practical lesson in business, economics, and customer service. The fair generated excitement and a sense of achievement, as students took pride in their work and received positive feedback from their peers and teachers.

Inside the classrooms, students encountered a series of science-related stations and exhibits organized by the Applied Science Department. Each activity and presentation was thoughtfully connected to one of the four elements—water, fire, earth, and air—demonstrating how these elements are foundational to scientific discovery and daily life. Through experiments, demonstrations, and interactive displays, students deepened their understanding of scientific concepts and witnessed the relevance of science in the world around them.

Overall, Science Day was a memorable celebration of inquiry, collaboration, and creativity, reinforcing the importance of scientific literacy and entrepreneurial spirit in the student community.
